Blenders Explained

Blenders are a dime a dozen, but that doesn’t mean they are all created equal. There are many different between blenders such as the power usage and speed variations.
Blenders are some of the most used kitchen appliances we will ever own. Why? You can do so much with a basic blender, e.g., making delicious milk shakes, salad dressings, fruit smoothies, alcoholic drinks or for your general blending needs. The most important aspect for many potential blender buyers is if the blender can effectively blend ice. Typically, blenders have an ice crushing buttons or some sort. If you plan on using a blender often in this way do not be cheap.
A cheap plastic blender might blend fruit well but it might struggle to blend ice consistently well. If you are seriously considering a blender, it is worth paying more for a blender that is very sturdy, reliable and will hold up over the long term. It is important to invest in a quality blender if you plan on using it daily – or even semi-daily. Ideally, you want a blender that has a glass container, stainless steel frame, and a strong base – the blender will speed up and you need to be able to hold onto it. A glass container will allow you to wash it in the dishwasher, if you have one. Remember, hold on to the lid very tight when using the blender so foods don’t fly everywhere.

Keep in mind speed variation – slower speeds are used for mixing drinks while higher speeds are used for food. Manufacturers may make a blender with 3 different speeds or 10 – it just depends on the make and quality of the blender. Some may feel 10 speeds are rather excessive when using 3-4 speeds will suffice. There is no need to pay for a blender with 15 speeds when you know you will never use them all – but, some people like having many options.
You will have to clean the blender eventually, finding a blender that is very easy to clean should be a high priority. A blender with a detachable blade should make for easy cleaning. Blenders with a wide mouth should be very easy to rinse out once you are done.
