Raw food diet is also often referred to as Detox or Cleansing Diet and consists primarily of raw food or food which is cooked to its minimum. When cooked, it should ideally not exceed temperatures of over 1160 F, which destroys the enzymes and vitamins found in the leafy vegetables and thus reduce the nutritional value of the food. Raw food diet contains lesser amounts of trans-fat or saturated fat and contains higher amounts of potassium, magnesium etc. The diet should consist of fresh organically produced (to avoid the risk of pesticides) vegetables, sprouts, fruits and nuts (excluding fried and salted nuts) such as cereals, beans, seeds, grains, food rich in fiber, young coconut milk and of course at least six liters of water a day. It should however be borne in mind that the diet should be sufficient to provide all the energy needed by a person in accordance with his rate of metabolic activity. Starving is not the solution, which may lead to further weakness or problems like ulcers. It is helpful in reducing weight, reducing heart diseases, diabetes and cancer.
Various raw food diet recipes are available. Broadly speaking, they can be in the form of soups & salads, desserts, pasta, burgers, bread substitutes, juices and drinks and wraps. To name a few of them would be like, stuffed mushrooms, zucchini rolls, sushi rolls, tomato cups, lettuce wraps, apricot almond honey bread, muesli, oat bran cereal, Italian bread, almond wafers, basil crackers, sun-burgers, nut pate, beta burgers, mashed potatoes, brown rice and curry with sauce, sprouted sunflower patties, apple raisin cookies, coconut macaroons, raw brownies, apple pie, strawberry banana pie, lemon pudding, fresh fruit ice cream, carrot fruit cake, green power custard, cranberry sauce, pineapple chutney, Thai guacamole, mango salsa, pine nut yogurt, avocado kiwi salsa, mushroom alfredo sauce, almond butter, fruit sauce, avocado mayonnaise, salsa salad, Indian cole slaw, Indian raita, cucado soup, gazpacho soup, chopped zucchini Mexican salad, confetti salad, orange carrot and seed salad, sea vegetable slaw, carrot soup, crème asparagus soup, parsley soup, vegetable lettuce salad, raisin fruit salad, marinated green veg peas salad, almond shake, apple shake, grape celery cooler, carrot juice mix, carrot lemonade, raw chocolate shake, ginger beer, banana milk shake, mango grape cabbage mixed salad and many more.
It would be really difficult to describe recipes in short. The best way would be to buy appropriate recipe books or search the internet. There are also many health and nutrition magazines which can supply all the information. One may even join raw diet classes and tutorials or discuss with nutritional experts. The enterprising one will also steal sneak previews of restaurant menus which have raw food on offer. However, cooking is an art and for the concerned wife or mother, there can be nothing more satisfying than putting to use ones’ imagination and create recipes of your own.
