Good health is a primary concern in today’s world. One gets to hear people suffering from one medical disorder to the other to the other all around the globe. Eating habits and work life stress compound the causes associated with creating health hazard. In this context, people are becoming increasingly aware of and adopting measures aimed at maintaining a balance such as good food rich is proteins, vitamins and low on fat and exercises which can keep the body fit and free of stress.
The human body is a store house of toxins and unless these are flushed out from the body on a daily basis, it will lead to a multitude of disorders. Symptoms of an ill matched diet and the presence of toxins can be realized from some of the symptoms such as insomnia, indigestion, fatigue and lack of energy, mood swings, bloating, headaches etc. In the earlier days and especially in the East, people used to start the day with a glass of luke warm water with a pinch of salt. Experts suggested an exercise in which the water consumed is puked out so that in the process, toxins and undigested matter from the intestine can be thrown out of the system. Otherwise, with the aid of liver and the kidney, the toxins would be dissolved out and emitted through urination. The body has a natural filtration system and the liver supports the detoxification process on its own. However, an indisciplined life in terms of food and other personal habits can put the liver under severe strain and the effect is bound to occur.
Raw food detox diet is also often referred to as Cleansing Diet and consists primarily of raw food or food which is cooked to its minimum. Raw food diet contains lesser amounts of trans-fat or saturated fat and contains higher amounts of potassium, magnesium etc. A raw food detox diet plan can help in reducing heart diseases, diabetes and cancer. The Journal of Nutrition published a research which proved that raw food diet lowered plasma total cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations.
Detox diet thus helps in rejuvenating the body by creating and adding lesser toxin deposits in the body. It helps in weight reduction and the benefits can be seen in the form of increased energy, a glowing skin and a feel of freshness. The diet should consist of fresh organically produced vegetables, fruits and nuts (excluding fried and salted nuts) such as cereals, beans, seeds, grains, food rich in fiber, young coconut milk and of course at least six liters of water a day. It should however be borne in mind that the diet should be sufficient to provide all the energy needed by a person in accordance with his rate of metabolic activity. Starving is not the solution, which may lead to further weakness or problems like ulcers.
While cooking the food, it is believed that temperatures over 1160 F destroy the enzymes and vitamins found in the leafy vegetables and thus reduce the nutritional value of the food. Therefore it is necessary to wash the vegetables well and not to overcook them. Detox diet consisting of fresh organically produced leafy vegetables and fruits (it’s advised to consume fruits as a whole because extracting juice out of them takes away the natural fibers present in them), lower consumption of oil and fats and drinking sufficient water can go a long way in keeping the body healthy. Good health is the repertoire of energy and nothing can be more precious than it.
